Andy ended up performing on both the acoustic and electric Emerging Artist stages, as well as spending an afternoon "busking"at the Amistar guitar booth.

That's What They Call The Blues

One for the purists, this record is really the first all-blues record Andy has put out.  That’s ironic because most people think of him as a blues musician.

"Somehow or other, the first couple of CDs ended up being a hodgepodge of styles -- with blues, of course, but also some rock, folk, and jazz-type stuff.  They didn't represent the solo, acoustic blues shows I've been doing for some time now.  The new CD changes that".

Order it now, from CDBaby!

Chockfull of slide and National steel guitar parts, "That's What They Call The Blues" is deliberately stripped down and vintage sounding.  Most of the tracks were recorded as live guitar/ vocal takes, and the rest contain Andy backing himself with bass and light percussion.

Nine of the twelve songs are original, with a newly remastered version of the  title track (which originally appeared on "The United State of Americana," Shut Eye Records, 2004).

Perhaps the following review sums it up best:

"Andy Coats possesses a voice that's rich, dark, and mellifluous. Paired with smooth guitar picking, he has created a blues feel that is close to perfect.  You find yourself jammin' on his front porch drawn by his realness and pure musicianship."
--Kerry Gibson, Shut Eye Records A&R
