Andy's first CD, "Haiku Rainfall," was released in October,
2000. It is a collection of nine original songs and three covers, and
represents his approach to the roots/blues genre. "I wanted to try to
mix things up as much as possible," says Andy, "while maintaining a
coherent package overall. I also wanted to keep the CD fairly 'stripped
down' and 'minimal'-you don't expect someone's first CD in this genre
to be heavily produced. The budget wouldn't have allowed for that in
any case." |

The entire CD was performed, recorded, and produced by Andy,
using a 4-track portable studio; it was then later transferred to
digital format at Trifecta Studios in Des Moines, Iowa. "A friend of
mine, Eric Zogry, had done something similar about a year earlier and
sent me a copy. I was pretty impressed with the quality of sound and
decided that was the way I wanted to go for this record." The result is
a package of songs rooted in acoustic guitar and vocals, complemented
by electric guitar, foot-stomping, and light percussion. "Most people
would probably call it a blues record, given the feel of it and the
presence of slide guitar. But some of the songs are probably closer to
'classic rock'. The title track is a good example of what I mean by
this." (Check out the free, full-length MP3 of

"Overall," Andy continues, "I am very happy with the way things turned
out. There are a few things I might do a little differently, and for
the next record I plan to flesh out the arrangements a bit more. I'm
hoping the resources will be there to make a somewhat 'bigger' record.
The songs I've been working on are pretty amenable to that."
